The intention of the spell is to tear down the subject's physical and mental limitations. Also, it grants the subject certain abilities as the spell adapts itself to the subject's subconscious personality. As an added power, the recipient of this enchantment is able to assume what is call a "shadowed form". It is generally a black costume that magically replaces whatever the subject is wearing. The costume is usually quite simple in design from the initial casting, but gradually becomes more elaborate over time. The subject can assume this form at will which is helpful due to the fact that some of the subject's new abilities may only be accessed while in the shadowed form.
The first test subjects for the Spell of the Shadows were a specially crafted broadsword and quarterstaff. Their precise capabilities since they were enchanted are something of a mystery due to the fact of their limited use over the centuries.
Since the enchantment of the two weapons, the Spell of the Shadows has been cast only four times, and only on humans. It is reserved only for the gravest emergencies as its use permentally drains all casters involved of some of their magical abilities. The old tales even speak of the spell's first use having destroyed the casters' magic entirely. This most recent casting has been on two men from Earth; the only occasion when the spell has been used on more than one person at the same time.
