Neddel

Pronounced (ned-del), with the second syllable stressed, Neddel exists in a realm far removed from that of Earth. What differentiates this world so much from our own is that magic is a known, and often-used, force. The flow of mystic energies is very strong throughout the realm. This has caused the inhabitants of Neddel, and probably countless other worlds in its realm, to be naturally attuned to magic. While everyone on the world is more sensitive to magic than individuals born of Earth, that does not mean everyone is a spell-caster. Proper mastery of the energies can only be attained through rigorous mental training and study. Also the use of magic is viewed differently depending upon the social climate of a region, and often this attitude is a general trend with each race.

On Neddel, race is more than just a matter of ethnic background or skin color. Humans resembling those of Earth share the world with elves, dwarves, goblins, and other races that were thought to only appear in Earth legends. The flora, fauna, and climate are also strikingly similar to Earth's with a few exceptions here and there in the plants and wildlife.

As a society, Neddel appears to be in the midst of a transition between a Bronze and Iron Age that has spawned a new period of discovery for the world. The inhabitants are all well aware that their world is round and have gone to extensive means, both mundane and magical, to map the entire planet. Though the idea of other worlds like their own is far beyond the comprehension of many.

The various races of the world are very ethnocentric, often stereotyping and discriminating against each other. For the most part, the varying factions tend to be isolationists, feeling it to be preferrable to have the races just stay out of each other's borders. This has led to some degree of peace with no single race becoming the dominant power,...yet.

Religion varies from race to race and location to location. However, the majority of the reckonized religions focus around a single diety called "the Soul" and the idea that all living things are in some way fragments of this all-encompassing entity. While the scientific possibility of any higher power has often been discounted, the similarities of Neddel to Earth and vice-versa are so numerous that it definitely suggests some unknown force has been effecting not only the creation of both worlds, but their development over the course of millions of years.
